Recently, I watched a TED talk by Marisa Peer on how to train our minds to reach beyond our limits.
So much of what she talked about was so relevant to me personally as well as what I talk about in my business. Courage is all about doing things or trying things in spite of what the negative voices in our heads tell us.
“But, I didn’t do anything! It’s not fair,” proclaimed the young boy to his parents.
The family was sitting right in front of me in church. Clearly, he had been aggravating and taunting his younger sister for much of the service.
I clearly remember the resignation in his voice and the discouragement on his face. It was his first time at the job seekers networking meeting.
Those of us who had been going for months and even years knew the drill and had seen many like him come through before. Sometimes they came back and sometimes they didn’t.
From 1956 until 2001 there was a tv show that ran called “To Tell the Truth.”
The show included a panel of celebrities asking questions to three guests all claiming to be the same person who had accomplished some great feat or task or had some unusual claim to fame.
After a good, long stretch of consistent speaking engagements for many months things have gotten quiet.
From what I understand, this is not unusual in this business during the summer.
