One of my biggest challenges in life is persistence. It seems I make what I believe to be valiant efforts at accomplishing goals or tasks but often find myself saying, “Well, I gave it a shot. I guess it just wasn’t to be.” I do believe I have grown in this area over the last few years but still have a long way to go.

One of my favorite stories of persistence is one that is fairly well known. It’s the story of Dr. Suess, Ted Geisel. He was rejected by 28 publishers before his first book went to press. TWENTY-EIGHT. Imagine if he had decided to do something else after ten or fifteen or twenty-five what we all would have missed.

I now have a new hero in my pursuit to be more persistent! It’s the honey badger. Check out this video:

This little guy will not be stopped. If Plan A doesn’t work let’s go on to Plan B and if Plan B doesn’t work and so on. I have found that, for the most part, the barriers I have to achieving my goals are mostly self-imposed. As I have visited with others I find that to be true for them as well. The honey badger doesn’t seem to have any barriers. If something didn’t work he just went and tried something else just as Dr. Suess did.

Calvin Coolidge said it best when it comes to persistence: “Nothing in the world will take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than the unsuccessful person with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.

What are your barriers and what are you doing to HONEY BADGER them?
