I am fortunate to live in the same community as one of my daughters, our son-in-law, and our grandchildren.
One of the great benefits of this is I get to see them often.
It seems like every time I hang out with them I learn something from them.
Both my granddaughter and grandson love to have books read to them. I have just recently become aware of three lessons on success I have learned from my grandson.
When they arrive at our house I usually get down on the floor and wrestle with them for a little bit. They both love to climb on me and occasionally there will be bonked head on one or all three of us.
When we’re done wrestling and need to settle down just a bit I’ll go and find a seat on the couch. As soon as I do this Jo Jo heads for the basket full of books on the side of the couch. Seeing Boppa sitting on the couch means someone will read to him.
GO FOR IT!
Jo Jo is still getting the whole walking concept down. It’s not uncommon for him to stumble as he gets around. When it comes to getting to the book basket nothing stops him. It doesn’t matter what toys are on the floor or how far he has to go or how many times he falls, he is a man on a mission.
As an adult I know I have often thought of all the practical and logical reasons I shouldn’t do something rather than the one reason that I should.
Jo Jo focuses on the one reason he should get a book. Like Jo Jo, I need to just go for it more often in life!
PUT YOURSELF IN A POSITION TO BE SUCCESSFUL!
When Jo Jo has book in hand he wobbles quickly and awkwardly to his selected reader. About three steps from his destination he turns around and backs up to said reader. He knows it’s a quick scoop of a hand under each arm, a lap landing and he’s in reading position.
As an adult I often know what I need to do to be successful but I often don’t put myself in that position. I continue doing the same things and getting the same results.
Jo Jo knows what works and employs it to great success!
ENJOY THE RIDE!
With Jo Jo there is no need to get new books. He loves the ones we have.
As we read, he reads out loud right along with me in a language I’m sure he understands but I’m clueless. He’ll point at a picture and then look at me and tell me what’s going on.
Every page is a new adventure regardless of how many times we have read the book. He simply enjoys being in my lap and reading.
As an adult I am all too often worried about the outcome or what’s next rather than enjoying the process and being in the moment.
Jo Jo enjoys every page and every word. You can see it in his face and hear it in his babbling voice.
I recently read an article that stated one of the greatest characteristics of great leaders is their level of self-awareness. How well do you know yourself in these areas? Do you have the courage to really examine yourself in these areas?
How have you recently gone for it?
How do you put yourself in a position to be successful?
What have you done to be sure you are enjoying the ride?
Have a STRONG and COURAGEOUS day!

Put yourself in a position to be successful. Love that.
