This past weekend my wife and I celebrated Christmas with our two daughters, son-in-law and four grandchildren.
The photo that accompanies this post is the gift that my eight year-old granddaughter Hallie created for me. Needless to say, this is very special and will be framed and placed in a prominent place.
Immediately after I opened it I realized that she knows the importance of the word courage in my life. We’ve had a few talks about what the word means as well as how the word impacts my life as well as the lives of most of us.
The other thing I realized is that she is watching me. Am I living a life that reflects courage? Am I leading a life that makes her want to lead a life of courage as well? That picture is now a fresh reminder of living my life into the value of courage.
More often than I would like, I fail in this desire to live courageously. Hallie is watching me. My other three grandchildren are watching me as well. Other people are watching me as well. Do they see courage in the decisions I make? Do they see courage in the little things? Am I leading a life that they would want to emulate?

People are watching you. Your kids, your grandkids, your neighbors, your co-workers and so many more are keeping an eye on you. What do they see? Are you leading a life others would want to emulate?
It takes courage to examine ourselves. It takes courage to choose values to guide our decisions and our lives. It takes courage to then live by those values.
Santa says he sees us when we’re sleeping and he knows when we’re awake. Others see us well. Do they like what they are seeing? Do we like what they are seeing?
